Business Advice – Non Geographical Phone Numbers

It can be confusing for customers if your business has many different offices all over a country as they may find it hard finding or remembering the specific telephone number for their local office. This is where non geographical telephone numbers come in. The idea is that you register one telephone number with which customers can access your business, anywhere, in a particular country. As a substitute for local dialing codes, non geographical numbers use a set prefix and number.

Some particular non geographical number prefixes such as 0800 can be set up so that the company, rather than the customer, pays for the cost of the telephone call. This gives customers more of an incentive to contact a business and also helps give the impression that the company values their customers more. Previous research has shown 0800 numbers to increase the response from advertising by as much as 175%.

One other advantage to non geographical telephone numbers is that all incoming calls to that registered number can be directed to any other registered telephone number in the country. So therefore, if one of your offices is having problems with their telephone lines, or if an office is moving location, incoming calls can be re-routed to another office with no loss in service for the customer.

The benefits to registering a non geographical telephone number are quite obvious. Though you may now be thinking, How do I register? What telephone company should I choose? Although there are a number of companies that provide registration services, not all can give you exactly what you need in terms of service, support and costs.

As you will be signing up to a long term contract, it is best practice to research every possible option that is available to you. Some prefixes may be free to register, but may come with monthly charges or high setup costs; others may be completely free to setup with no monthly charges but the contract may include stipulations that require a percentage of each call to be paid to the company. Different prefixes will, obviously, come with different associated costs, so do your homework.

One of the most important things to note is that your registered number should be able to be easily remembered by customers so that if they were to see or hear an advertisement containing the number, there is a higher chance that they will contact you. Non geographical telephone numbers are always charged at a flat rate, no matter what time of day a call is made, meaning another benefit to customers and consequently, your business.
